faq_ans What is Vedic Mathematics?  
  Shri Jagadguru Sankaracarya re-discovered and wrote meanings of 16 Vedic-sutras (as 16 volumes) during 1911-1918 that were irretrievably lost forever! Another volume "VEDIC MATHEMATICS" (based on Jagadguruji"s later teachings) was published by his followers in 1965, which is getting popular, but a "not-scientific controversy" surrounds it!  
faq_ans Is Vedic Mathematics sensible?  
  Mathematicians are not sure! Some of them utter that it is not sensible (not-scientific)!  
faq_ans What Indian Mathematicians are saying ?  
  They too are divided. Some of them endorsed a view that "a not-scientific Vedic Mathematics is gradually getting imposed on students". They supported a related case filed in Supreme Court of India and Judgment that "students may be encouraged to increase their computation skill of Vedic Mathematics" has been passed in September 2002)!  
faq_ans Is it truly from 'a Veda'?  
  To my awareness Shri Jagadguru Sankaracarya alone has claimed Vedic-links of Vedic Mathematics! Apparently no other Indian has continued to explore Vedic Mathematics as Jagadguruji had done it!  
faq_ans On what basis said Vedic-links are claimed?  
  Jagadguruji has claimed it based on his study/awareness of Vedas and also by studying more materials (of Adharvaveda). Jagadguruji has narrated a 'sense of Vedic sutras' based on overall knowledge he had a century ago! I am not sure why 'a mental Vedic computing' was regarded easy (though it is partially true)! Fact is Vedic computing is simplest when matrix-virtues are applied for number application.  
faq_ans Vedic Mathematics or zero came first?  
  They are concurrent! Jagadguruji hardly point out inter-relations of 'Vedic Mathematics and zero'! Great sage Veda Vyasa compiled 4-Vedas and used 'zero' both materially and philosophically. His "18-chapters of Bhagavad-Gita, 18-days war narrated in Mahabharata and 18-puranas" reveal a fact that 'zero start 2D square matrix positions' helps to relate memory. (1...9 (rows) +1...9 (columns) is 18. (A merged zero-start position of matrix is regarded HIS position!). Vedic-sutras are 'matrix position virtues', which implies "Veda Vyasa perfectly knew sutras and a zero". By the time Vedas were taking shape, Vedic Mathematics was already a "high utility public awareness", which naturally became part of a Veda! We are aware that an ancient Indian manner of "linking Sanskrit stances to knowledge" carried "sutras" forward, which is a language-virtue! Much early, Ramayana too reveal ten-based numbers disclosing ancient Indian skill to "imagine, grasp, apply and publicize" a zero!  
faq_ans What is need of a zero?  
  'Need and benefits are inter-related! People either find a way to fulfill a need or 'try to excel'! Sometimes we look back from benefits towards a source of it! Zero is like that. Essentially a number-sense easily fixes 'meaning of words', which in turn fixes a sentence-sense! It helps to communicate effectively! Adding a number-sense to a sentence is grammar, which resembles "using number as condition" (a system of before units counting!). Zero emerged as bi-product of "language use"! Benefits of zero have been skillfully carried to human lives by ancient Indians, which also reveal ancient-Indian-respect to knowledge! More than a need zero is indispensable!  
faq_ans Evidence of zero-start in Vedic Mathematics?  
  No specific comments of Jagadguruji are readable in VEDIC MATHEMATICS! However "Vedic-sutras" reveal a sense of "zero-start 2D square matrix application"! A sutra "Ekadhikena poorvena" has meaning "one more than previous one", which technically reveals concept of "a unit-steps"! Modern digital number concept (applied by computers) is same as "before units counting followed in Vedic mathematics". Virtues of said before units counting has been carried to "zero-start two dimensional square-matrixes" and "Vedic sutras"! Such inter-links are not stated in said book but said shortfall will disappear by a year-2007-copyright article VEDIC MATHEMATICS IS FOREVER-a short version***, which primarily reveals great virtues of zero-start!  
faq_ans Before units counting is sensible?  
  By doing it graphically, yes! Look at 2D-square matrixes 0...9 or 00...99 or a higher order to memorize before-units! Zero-start positions of 'y' and 'x' directions help us to memorize 'all 2D square matrix positions' as 'a-unit increasing number steps' (starting from a left top corner zero-start)! Row numbers (y) increase like lines of a page' and column numbers (x) increase like letters of a line (when it is a left to right reading). Merged 'yx' numbers (00…99) also increase by a-unit (in a page reading order). Same logic applies to 3D 'zyx' merged-numbers imagined within 'a cube space'! A number 634785 can be instantly split as z=63, y=47, x=85 or as y=634, x=785.  
faq_ans Utility of before units counting?  
  We can instantly grasp any huge number in relation to zero-start. Zero-start is 'a child' of 'before units counting'! By relating with zero we can instantly grasp positive, negative, decimal, fraction, infinitesimal, endless recurring-digits or 'any other number having complexities'! Similarly a linear digital number or '2D square matrix position number' or '3D cube matrix position number' concurrently makes sense in relation with zero! '0' and '1' are technically "before unit of '‘1' and a merged (1+1)! Resulting binary numbers are '0' and '1'! People preferred to use 'a-unit merged' whole numbers alone and mathematics grew that way! 'Great virtues of Vedic Mathematics and before units counting' thus disappeared! One of said virtues is "a simpler number application by relating positive numbers alone", which helps each individual to apply numbers far more effectively! It is highest utility of before units counting!  
faq_ans Is numbers less than zero wrong?  
  Not at all, whereas, it is a matter of simplicity! We have two clear number application possibilities in front of us. One of them is a currently applied manner "with numbers less than zero" and the other is Vedic method, which applies "all positive a-unit increase of numbers"! Computing principles greatly expands (and become complex) when they are linked to numbers less than zero! Students usually get unsettled when they concurrently relate plus and minus numbers to a computing!  
faq_ans Why ‘positive numbers’-based Vedic Mathematics?  
  2D square matrix and 3D cube matrix (0...9, 00...99, 000...999 or a higher order) relates all positive number positions! Six computing signs "plus, minus, multiply, divide, equal and square-root have been logically linked to aspects visible in a 2D square matrix (positions)! In other words said "matrix, computing signs and Vedic-sutras" concurrently interlinks each other, which is also true for 3D cube matrix! It is evident that "Vedic Mathematics" is correctly inter-linked with 2D square matrix virtues. (Zero and six computing signs are logical ancient Indian marks)!  
faq_ans How a 2D square matrix relates computing signs?  
  A small horizontal line and an equal length vertical line are basic elements of a 2D square matrix. Their ends merge at 'a left top corner point'. A 10x10 matrix of "said elements" is 2D square matrix 0...9! A page read 'row and column' positions have before-units 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 which are conditions/numbers! Column numbers are "before-units" and row numbers are "before-tens". Each merged row-column position numbers are 00, 01, 02 ...97, 98, and 99. Each one of said position numbers also relates "before squares" of a concerned matrix position! Technically before-units-counting is realized by a zero-start! A before-unit is represented by small "horizontal line". Subtraction leads to a before position. Said sensible relations are resembled by a logical minus (-) sign! 2D-square matrix and five other computing signs*** maintains similar meaningful logic.  
faq_ans How a 3D cube matrix relates computing signs?
 
  "A 3D-matrix position elements" (equal z, y, x elements) apparently do not relate 'a computing sign', whereas, 'a cube root of a number' is liable to have represented by a separate sign. Said 3D sign could have been different from 2D-'square root sign'!  
faq_ans Why not matrix position numbers 1,2,…9,10 ?  
  It is a very crucial question! You may create a 2D matrix like that to check merits and demerits of it! Simple answer to this question is 'it is not suitable to relate mental computing'. Flexibility associated to use of "equal-digits 'yx' positions" of matrix 0...9 or 00...99 or 000...999 or a higher order is completely lacking in matrix numbered 1...10. 2-digits '10' disturb rhythm of using "equal-digits" numbers!  
faq_ans Memorize matrix-positions; what for?  
  A visible 2D square-matrix is a figure that can be easily memorized. Concerned zero-start helps to memorize positions by columns, rows, diagonally, stepwise, digitally (a unit steps) and so on by consistently relating to said zero-start matrix position! It is like a computer relating all non-zero numbers to ‘a zero- sensing part’ of computer, which helps people to optimize "a self-skill to compute" as that of a computer!  
faq_ans Vedic sutra revealing before units counting?  
  Vedic sutra "Ekadhikena poorvena" (one more than previous one) technically reveals it! Before units/unit conditions 0, 1, 2, 3, 4...etc is counted as 1, 2, 3, 4, 5...etc in a straightforward manner (which is "one unit more than before-units" conditions 0, 1 2, 3, 4)!  
faq_ans Before units counts or usual counts are simpler?  
  People have always preferred to count from'1'! Unfortunately zero is a product of before-units counts and '‘a key element of number-theory'! Unless and until people change their preference to before units counting, a paradoxical number application will prevail forever! People have an option to use computers by spoiling self abilities!  
faq_ans Number application and computation?  
  Both are different! While Vedic Mathematics primarily nurtures a number application culture (linking with easy to relate numbers, reciprocals and matrix positions etc...), modern mathematics is a computing-culture! While mathematicians utter that "Vedic mathematics is not-scientific" they do apply "a paradoxical imaginary-concept of number-theory" for scientific computing! It confuses ordinary users who apply computing!  
faq_ans Comparison of Vedic and modern matrix?  
  Vedic matrixes consistently relate ‘zyx’ positive number positions alone either within a '2D square area' or within 'a 3D cube space'. They are 0...9, 00...99 or a higher order matrixes having "a far left top corner zero-start position"! Computers apply it by "a plus and minus four quadrant Cartesian 2D" or "a plus and minus 8-quadrant 3D", which relates "endlessly increasing x, y and z co-ordinates"! Combined plus and/or minus co-ordinates makes 3D imagining too difficult to ordinary users!  
faq_ans How square-matrix and cube-matrix helps?  
  Concerned 2D or 3D matrix positions have equal-digits in respective "row/ column of (2D)" and "layer/ row/ column of 3D". Said "equality of digits" is a need to build a related public awareness! Simplicity is a definite need to realize a public utility system! Said equal-split of position values are easily realizable by 'square or cube'-matrix!  
faq_ans x, y and z need separate zero starts ?
 
  It is a definite need. Said "merged 'zyx' origins" (000, 000000, or a higher order) can be used to relate all remaining positions of a concerned 3D matrix having said "zyx origins". Ordinary computer users can apply it with usual graphics-software having x, y, z co-ordinates and a zero-start, which technically resemble to 'zyx' Vedic 3D system!  
faq_ans What are page read and book read orders?  
  They are simple manners of counting "a unit increasing number positions" either in an order of page read ('yx' 2D) or book read ('zyx' 3D)! A “far left top corner" of book is common origin for both 2D and 3D! Zyx does maintain a natural left to right digits writing order!  
faq_ans Vedic mathematics can help computer user?  
  It depends on user-"need and awareness". Computer effectiveness is related to commands it receive. Flexible human-mind and computer-consistency together create wonders! Human ability to imagine answers is a weak link in achieving it! Vedic system technically excels for linear, area, volume and moving volume related number applications' (by excluding minus- numbers), which helps people to build superior skills!  
faq_ans Vedic Mathematics virtues?  
  In near future we will find complex '‘instant number applications' by linking more-digit-numbers. Current number applications hover near zero by linking with fewer digits numbers! Number-zone "-1, 0, 1" relates paradoxical computing-principles! Vedic system reveals technical answers to questions like why a number system of digits 0...9 was chosen. I wonder if it is a public awareness even today! Vedic computing virtues are supreme/ forever!  
faq_ans An ancient Indian 3D system?  
  3D imagining has continued as a great human passion! Ancient Indians have related natural celestial bodies like stars, planets, and moons to 3D by adding a simple awareness of reciprocal digit order (and translating said order into changing-3D)! Vedic sutras 1/7, 1/13, 1/17 etc reveals study of a complex number series 1, 11, 0101, 001001, 00010001 or a higher order! Indian astrology makes use of concerned many 3D-realities! faq_ans Reciprocal digit order?  
  'Vedic mathematics' narrates logical methods to compute huge number of digits answers! "Study of reciprocal structures" is a need to work out said answers. Technically said huge number of digits is either several 'merged row-column 2D square matrix position values' or 'several merged layer-row-column 3D cube matrix position values'. Apply these values mentally as "a single more digits number", which is a supreme Vedic computing principle!  
faq_ans More-digit numbers, what for?  
  Merged-value of matrix-positions (along with left-zeros of each matrix-position) is 'a more digit number' and said digits can be divided as equal-digits matrix-positions! Computers can accurately do said division in seconds! (No "truncation error" in merged matrix-position values)!
